Can this be used on a stock head with pressed in studs, or only with aftermarket studs? I'm not 100% sure what the stud size is on an OEM vortec head, so I guess I'm a bit confused.

That tool doesn't preclude or remove the need for an adjustable pushrod, it just gives you a more stable/consistent baseline rocker to measure them from. It looks a bit easier to use than an OEM rocker for checking.

An adjustable pushrod was on my shopping list. I was looking at using this one:

I have a 1.52 roller tip that I use along with it, it's close enough for me. I could just drop em both in the mail for ya, less than gas money to meet up.

I use the little plastic tester in conjunction with various adjustable push rods. Its much simpler than a regular rocker. I always double check, but they are usually pretty close.
