Hello all,

I am new to this forum, and just acquired a 1968 Chevy II about a month ago. The car was previously used as a drag set up.

Currently my brake lights/ turn signals in the rear do not work. When the headlights are on the tail lights / parking lamps do light up. However when the brake pedal is applied, no brake lights work. Also turn signals and hazards do not illuminate in the rear.

Have already checked the brake light switch, checked for bad grounds, blown fuses and replaced all bulbs front and rear. They turn signals / hazards and parking lamps are functional and work in the front of the car.

Upon looking further under the car in the rear. I noticed the driver side tailight socket yellow wire was cut and just hanging down. Same with passenger side dark green wire. I know these are the wires that make the brake / turn signal function.

My main issue is not knowing where I need to connect these wires back up to? Do they run all they way to the front panel (original) or connect elsewhere?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I have a similar issue.

I have all my running lights. But no turns or brake lights, or indicators on dash, no horn.

Heres a little back story, I had a non tilt column in it. Everything worked fine. Removed column to put in a tilt column. Had plugged it in without out actually installing, then unplugged it, cleaned up the dash a little and mounted the column. I now have no turns, brakes, indicators or horn. Could this just be a bad connection with the harnesses, a fuse? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you

Aren't we all . . . I'd go & take my 3rd 'class medical' ; those Doctors - would tell me that - "you are 'color blind' , for reds & greens" .
Really . . . . . . . well . . . " I work in a body shop ; and paint cars " . Then, he says too me : how do you know ' when too stop at a Red Light (you just stop , when
you see the top light (red light) . I said - no - ' cause if I drive to Terrell, (Texas) . . . those Red lights are = (mounted) horizontal . . !
Then, my buddy & instructor would always ' quiz me ' after that .

We went down too Scottsdale - and , I took the FAA - Light GUN Test : you get 6 random lights , shot at you : Random order - - (being either : RED or GREEN)
........ 3 lights @ 1,000' & 3 lights @ 1,500' (you have too
score = 100 % .
I missed the very 1st light color ; which means = I 'flunked that test' (@ 1,000 ft distant ) ...........
but , then I did get the next 5 lights , correct : results was - " No Night Flying " .. . . . yeah sure

I also got stopped by : U S CUSTOMS , they were inside my plane , searching ....................................................................................... (we'll just leave it - at that ) .

isn't it funny how you get discriminated at places for color vision. example put your credit card in the slot an casher says hit the green button. i ask which is the green button an get a look like there is a friggin' turkey sitting on my head. also 90 % of all military jobs require normal color vision but back in the 60's n 70's they could still draft ya. ya i got drafted. also got a note sent home with me in grade school telling my parents that they were failing as parents because they hadn't tought me how to tell colors. that didn't go over to well on the teacher when my mother showed up.
