Is there a place on the frame, with the numbers stamped, so you can see if numbers match the numbers on the door post? The door post says 117 and the cowl ID 118. 65 SS Randy:chev:

The VIN is the only number that counts. Many cowl ID numbers are wrong.

The VIN is also stamped on the driver side cowl flange.

Yes, the cowl tags on the mid 60's Chevy IIs all showed the cars as V/8s, whether they were or not. The VIN tells the truth. Your car is a 117.

Thanks for the input, thats what I thought. The VIN says it a 117,but someone put a 327 in it. It looks great in there. Randy :chev:

I've been wondering this myself but haven't asked.

So... my 64... is the original VIN stamped on the inner cowl? My car had no firewall plate and no VIN plate in the door. I got a good VIN plate w matching title with the car and reg'd it.

I'd like to know the original VIN because I suspect that my Dad might have owned this car at one time decades ago.
