Looking at a 454 engine from a 1990-94 chevy dually. I've read around about V5 and V4 engine blocks? What kind would this one be. In my mind I'm looking at running factory heads and a mutha thumper cam I'm not a racer so it just needs to hit a rough lick and spin a tire. I've figured everthing else out, motor mounts, heater core, etc.. But this block thing kind-a worries me. Engine runs good just looking at cleaning it up adding a cam, intake (Eddy RPM),headers (cheapest that fit) and carb (750). Need some info before I get to deep in this deal.

This should be a 5th gen block, if you need help PM or post in the 3rd gen, it's pretty straight forward swap and they're fun to drive! Most part can be had aftermarket and some SB stuff can be modified.

For what your doing the engine is fine. The heads are not the greatest as far as performance goes. I think stock compression is like 8.8 to 1
