This particular book by Vizard has a lot of PRACTICAL information, and he give hard numbers to backup his ideas, as opposed to merely opinions. It’s the best $20 a beginning hotrodder will ever spends.
That's the early edition, with the blue background cover....it has more home head porting info and most of the build recipes in the back of the book are flat tappet cam.....it is a good choice if you are reallyinterested in head and intake porting info, along with Holley carb modification for more flow info.
The newest edition has a yellow cover, build recipes are almost all hydro or solid roller instead, a lot of the stock fuelie and Vortec head porting info has been removed and replaced with just general review of aftermarket head offerings, as well as intake modifications and carb modifications got removed.
both are still very informative books for someone seeking knowledge beyond basic stock and bolt-ons building. Well worth the cost.
I'm reading through his head porting book now, pretty good read. I'm planning on cleaning up the castings on my Victor Jr. 23* heads on the SBC this winter when I rebuild it. I'm thinking about getting this book too.
