I wanted to get some opinions/testimonies on available Exhaust/Mufflers/headers out there. I am looking for that real lopey muscle car idle, and something that has that "raw" sound, but won't give you a headache while driving it down the highway.

I'm also looking at the whole X-pipe/H-pipe battle as well. I've been told that the X pipe will quieten the car down, almost make it sound like a late model corvette/camaro, but will improve performance. I personally like the more throaty sound, such as:

I know the cam makes the difference, but I am looking mostly for the best bang for the buck exhaust kit and headers. I just got my 383 rebuilt with an Erson complete roller top end, and PBM aluminum heads and Holley 750dp. I'd like to hear what everyone else is running on a 3rd gen Nova.

best for the buck is a summit or jegs 3" with summit or jegs coated headers....

mufflers... your choice.. you have to live with the sound...

Old school dynomax super turbo, current sound, Flowmaster, new tech.. any of the current straight through basalt wrapped mufflers...

heres the deal.. X-pipe will make more power.. but is a pain for trans removal.. H-pipe make less power than the X yet make more than regular duals.. H-pipe is usaly installed after the tail shaft of the trans.... making easy removal...

the summit/jegs fit well in the 68/74 chassis.... I used to have the summit headers .. but I out grew them

I have Hedman 65019 Jethot coated, with a jegs 3" system, passing through Pypes ultraflo 3" straight through Basalt wrapped perforated tube muffler...

here is a clip of it running
