Don’t mean to repeat myself but need to figure out compability of a 1990 block with a one piece rear mail seal and a 403 bell housing. Will they work together? I’m trying to mate up to a T5 transmission.

I put an answer for you over in the "4 speed install" post.

then, I have a question for you about your T 5 trans ... ?

Do you have your T 5 on hand ..... can you look for your 'transmission casting number' ...

the top cover : has a casting # ?

the main case : has a casting # ?

the tail-housing : has a casting # ?

look for the 'circle on the pass. side of the main case - with a number in the 'middle-of-the-circle' ------ that number is the 'casting year' number.

the reason I'm asking is --- "Sometime in the year '93 Borg-Warner' changed the T 5 trans "mounting ears to the Ford 'TYPE EARS' ......
meaning : 1992 & older T-5 trannys DO - NOT need
an adapter plate ( they mount direct to the 403 Bellhousing).
..... in 1993 Borg - Warner changed ALL T-5 's to the "FORD
TYPE Mounting EARS" ..... an 'adapter plate IS NEEDED'.

My T 5 tranny came from a '93 GMC S-15 Sonoma 2w/d , 2.8 V-6 .....
but ..... my trans was cast in '92 .... a W/C , and, NO Adapter Plate needed.

ps - also, if you have matching 'casting numbers' ==== that says, maybe, no-one has messed with your trans . (Maybe).

... I'm just saying ...... jim

casting numbers on a Borg/Warner T 5 5speed trans.
year number is in the casting circle .

#1 -- 93 T 5 Tail-Housing -- casting # is '92 . --- also, has "electric speed sensor" (VSS) --- click too enlarge photos

#2 -- 93 T 5 main case casting number is ; year '92 . --- No Adapter Plate Needed -- bolts direct to '403' bellhousing .

#3 -- top cover also has a casting number ; '92 (not shown)

I hope this helps .

All Chevy bellhousings have the same bolt pattern. They will all bolt to your block. The difference is in what size flywheel they can handle. The 403 is designed for the 153 tooth flywheel.
