I've been running a set of borrowed wheels/tires and they are being taken back this spring (damn it Dad).

The car is a '66 2dr HT, two tone blue, bone stock 24K miles. I am lowering it with CPP 1.5" lowering springs, and 2 inch lowering blocks in the rear. Same set up as Rookie's wagon.

I have a set of nearly new BFG G-force KDW2 205/50/17 tires that are going on it.

I am planning on ordering Coy's C-5 wheels in 17x7 (grey centers). The question I have is, I have been told that they come in 4.25" bs, but 4.5" bs may be availalbe by maching some of the material on the hub, apparently there is enough material.

I have read that anywhere from 4-4.75" bs in the front will work, and 4-4.5" in the rear. Do I get the custom 4.5" or will 4.25" work? What are you thoughts?

If it matters I may be doing the CPP mini-kit and brakes in the future.

Thanks,
Troy

Hey Troy. Alot of guys using the Coys, they look great and fit well. Ummm? Cant machine material off to go from 4.25 to 4.50 backspace. You would need to add material, not remove. Maybe it was a 4.75" BS going to a 4.50 BS?? JR

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't you wrong? Remove a 1/4" of material from mounting surface and you get 4 1/2" backspace.

Do you mean like cutting a piece out of the rim and welding it together so it's narrower? What is the drop front, is that the outer lip? Thanks.
I think they can machine the mounting surface? I'll call them because I'm looking into this as well.
If you gain in backspace the rim center moves outward. The center will move toward the drop in the rim on the outside as you gain backspace. If the backspace is more than "normal", like our Novas, then you will have the rim center sticking out past the drop on the outer portion of the rim (looking a bit "funny"). You can machine the center down so it blends in better with the outer rim drop.

I read from someone on pro-touring.com that they had Coys machine 1/4" of the mounting surface to give them 4.5" BS.

Firehawk - beautiful car. Exactly the stance I was looking for, and the exact setup I'd like to run in the future. Thanks for posting.
