What's wrong with this

Well, they do not make REPOP tail light sheet metal panels, I don't think. If so, they are more recent. However, there are some wonderful suppliers that list these panels in there catalogs as 62 - 65. So this guy, maybe had this car done in a shop that doesn't normally do 1st gen Novas. After the thing is past the point of no return at the shop, they try to fit the 65 tail lights. :no: Won't cover the 62- 64 openings. Not everyone is a millionaire. Some people have to settle. So lets make a crown of thorns here and crucify someone. :yes:

Personnally I never liked the taillights on a 65...they look squished to me. I actually like this look better. There, I'm not afraid to say it!

I seen this picture earlier and had no clue what anyone was discussing. Can someone post what it's "suppose" to look like?:confused:
Oh yeah, I remember this ad... I don't think it looks half bad the way it is.

Some people are purists and will criticize everything that is not 100% original/accurate. In a way, it's good to have people like that because they can look at a car and know that something's out of place - so they're a good resource. BUT it's not good to poo poo on people if they decide to change something. Their cars, their decisions.
Can someone post what it's "suppose" to look like?
Like a 1962-1964 Chevy II/Nova without a 1965 trunk on it. :D

Here ya go not the best The red taillight portion is not year correct in the first posting here, not my choice but it's not my car - still looks fine... Here is mine before I installed the center diecast- with the correct lights - for a 65...

Ahhh now I see. Thanks Greg!
well... my opinion may upset folks, maybe not.

i kinda see this as similar to the Tri-5 Chevy's. 55's-6's and '57's. the parts on these cars are quite interchangeable and i've seen some strange things in my day... what about a '55 Chevy with '56 tail lights on/in it? it's just wrong to me in so many ways. a custom is a custom, Yes... but what i'm talking about is very similar to what i see in the above ChevyII image... i think it would be absolutely perfect to have the '62-'64 tail lights installed if those are the tail light patches used. i can appreciate wanting to fix it but c'mon, you can install the '62-'64 deck lid and store the '65 lid. full disclosure of what was done and the extra lid if selling the car and the new owner can get the proper pieces and make it right and bolt on the lid. this to me just looks like a hack job...

some mixing and matching i think is OK but i personally have a line. this instance i feel the line was crossed. it COULD have been made acceptable... but wasn't.

folks might get my point, might not. this situation, i think, is a personal taste issue... and it's not to mine... ;)

Hey Flyer,I understand and don't mean to rag on ya butt I wouldn't have that air dam you're u got in my wildest dreams. I also will never rag on you for doing it your way,as my Novas are the way I want them.
My and your opinions are like armpits we all have different opinionzand I'm glad everything is not the same.
exactly. it's a personal taste issue and no two are alike. just offering my veiwpoint/opinion on my dislike of what i see above. your opinion (as others) are all welcome if tastefully offered which is what i was hoping to offer above. i'm not ragging either... if my opinion is offered respectfully (as yours and everyone elses) it makes offering opinions OK. it's when it gets disrespectful things get nasty. :(

and i take no offense to your dislike of my car... i like it enough for everyone. ;)
Not knowing the story behind the miss-mash 65/62-64 taillights it could have been many things, time, money (which I have neither of right now!LOL) only thing available...

But someone said it in the other thread... to each their own, that's hot rodding!

Kevin... your welcome anytime! But I know what your say'mn!

My :2cents: on this is that it just seems lazy to me. I dont claim to be a purist but a car should have the right parts on it for the year IMHO.

The black Nova in the photo that started all of this, looks to me to be a 63 with a 65 deck lid. You could say that not everyone has the money which I understand, but there is enough money in that nice 65 diecast and deck lid to have sold it and found a 63 craigslist special. We are talking about Nova parts not Duesenberg parts.

I wouldnt ever try to insult someone or their likes and tastes, but it falls into the same category as painting your car pink...it may be a very nice car and some will like it, but you are kind of leaving the door open for the haters.
I didn't know the difference until you guys here showed me, but I still think it looks better the wrong way. Might not be purebred, but it looks better to me.
For the record, the car is a 65. Wrong rocker trim too. Taste is a personal thing. Still think the guy wasn't a purist and the body shop he chose wasn't either.

I'm pretty sure this sharp 67 came originally with the same chrome strip running down the center from the factory.

I personally think the 67 are sharper with out the chrome.

The purist in me appreciates the stainless stripe as a factory correct 67Sport Coupe Representation.

??One question I have is did factory 67 2-door hardtop ever come from the factory without the stainless down the center???

:devil:
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
:poke::tongue:

BUT FOR THE '65, I DON'T LIKE WHAT WAS DONE EITHER, SOME THINGS JUS' DON'T NEED ALTERATION. MAYBE HE DIDN'T KNOW
i guess you guys wont like my tailpipes comming outta tail lights:rolleyes:
It's not the way I would have done it, but I'm sure some would say the same thing about my car. To each their own.
