Big Block definitely!
Not a Nova, but here's the BBC combo in my 71 Chevelle. I have not had it on a dyno since I had the heads ported and swapped intakes, but it should be making close to 700 horsepower.

Big and Bigger

I am on my second Big Block in my '69 Nova.
However, a hot small block is really plenty fast, a lot easier to squeeze into the car, and parts that fit are everywhere.
I have had a good 350 under wraps for far too long. Time to wake it up.

Bbc

i like big blocks with nitrous. I have a shafiroff 582 in a 69 vette and a 468 with a 150 shot in my 72 nova. The fastest cheapest way is 5.3 with a turbo. Check out Drag coverage forum. A guy has 5.3 with force induction turbo i think in a trans am running 5.88 in the eigth. Around 3 grand into it.

Big blocks are so much more fun. Im upgrading from my 396 BBC to a built and balanced 454. Saving up for a blower this winter so hopefully next race season ill be running 10's or faster.:yes:
you plan to run that car on the streets much? considering similair power levels just dont know if its "too much for the street" :turn:

Big block is the only way to go. My mild setup (496) is putting out 595 ft-lbs of torque and 565hp at the flywheel. Will be going back in my 72 nova daily driver. :D

did you ever get the motor in and daily drive? considering similar build maybe some more power tho...ever wish you had more?? sweeeet build!

I have an aluminum LS 5.3 LM4. I just tore it down completely and flex honed the cylinders. It will be making its way down to the machine shop soon. I will be building it for a twin turbo setup.

I had a 396 in my '71 Nova and now have a '63 with a small block. So far, I like the '63 better. It has the TCI 4 link and CPP minisubrame. Handles nice and the car is light compared to my '71.

I'm having a blast with the small junkyard LS stuff.

2010 5.3, DOD delete and 229/235 cam, 3800 stall TH350, ebay headers, and 3.73s in a 10 bolt. [email protected] Shifting at 7000 and drive it anywhere.

It runs as hard as a Dart head 383 I had years ago, although admittedly I've learned a lot about getting a car down the track since then.

i see alot of people going from a 355 to a 454 and loving the difference in power. but i can tell you i would run a well built SBC before a BBC any day of the week. you can get Big Block power in a Small Block package! its proven every day! <img src="http://www.stevesnovasite.com/images/yes.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Yes" class="inlineimg" />
That small block can't match the torque though. And a small block is going to need expensive aftermarket heads to do what a big block can do with factory castings.

Knocked back a 434 SB only to build a 489 BB... Hopefully one day in this lifetime when it's done I'll see what the fuss is all about...

No replacement for displacement, luckily the LS series is a stop gap. Going with a mild 5.3 and stock front. Have a the rad and CBR mid tubes. Pulling my SBC this October and installing the 5.3 fall of 2020.
