Backup lights = toggle switch.

My backup lights have never worked, so I figured "hey why not make them work with a switch? It should be fun!" Am I opening trouble or will this work? I assume I just need to fine the wire and put the switch in there somewhere then route/mount the switch. Am I going to be jeopardizing some other electrical system by doing this?
