on my 73 nova it is hard starting right now (i have a clear fuel filter and can see fuel getting to the carb also can smell it) once the choke kicks down it stalls for second and then restarts easily.so i go down the road and open it up and it goes like it should but when i let out the gas it backfires once very loudly and stalls again. i am leaning towards fouled plugs or an arcing wire but any where else i should look? definitely seems electrical as the backfire is out of tailpipes and obviously while its under a load.(also havnt changed the plugs and wires in a while).

re check your firing order,,,1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

i havnt done anything to upset the firing order.this problem just started recently.

then wait till it gets dark raise your hood and start it might be a hole in a wire causing a cross fire then
