Hey folks, some of you may remember me, most probably won't. A couple years ago I built a beautiful 72 nova, and sold it.. like an idiot. Well since then I have bought, and sold a few more.

Fast forward to last weekend I picked up this 71. I paid a pretty penny for the car, and it may not look that nice, but it's actually fairly solid, as well as it runs, and drives.

I think my problem has always been that I start with a rotted out shell, and have to nickel, and dime it just to make it a complete car again.. so this time I spent more than I ever have. 5k.. which you may think I'm nuts.. but this car needs one rocker panel replaced because it was damaged, one small hole in the floor, and it needs new quarter skins put on. To me that's easy.

Anyway.. on to pictures!

Yeah I never finished my last two projects actually.. my 71 super sport I sold to a buddy, and the 72 I picked up in vermont was rotted so bad that I just gave up!

It looks like one of those pictures was taken on the Airline.
Looks like a nice project.
The pic of it behind my pickup was at the rest stop on I95 north in Medway Maine. This is a far better start than what I normally start with!

That looks surprisingly solid for this area. Where'd you find that?!?!? Nice start!
I believe the car is from out west, I actually picked it up in Hancock Maine not too far from Bangor. I had seen it for sale on marketplace for a while, and last week I got my ducks all lined up in a row, and was able to buy it.

Git er dun! ... and come to the Atlantic nationals in Moncton:
I might not have it fully restored, but it will definitely be on the road by then.. who knows, maybe I'll plan on that! I'm just outside of Caribou, so that's not too far just a couple hours. Did Canada drop the vaccine mandate to cross yet? I have my passport.

So I got my garage cleaned out yesterday, and brought the Nova I'm. I discovered a few more spots of rot, no big deal. I also noticed it has a line lock plummed in. This was definitely someone's drag car. I'm going to have to check the rear end to see what it has for gears.

After getting it inside I pulled the holley off, it's a 600cfm 4160. I've never rebuilt one, but it can't be that difficult. Had a hard time getting some of the gaskets to come off so hopefully soaking them in the carb can softens them up. The secondaries were locked shut which im wondering if that contributed to it over fueling some how.

So the factory color is cottonwood green. I think I'd actually like to spray it that color again. Also considering ordering full quarter panels for it instead of doing skins.

Nice color. I am not sure if you have to be vaccinated to cross the Canadian Border.
I'm pretty sure Trudeau got rid of that mandate.

Didn't you have an old scout and a firebird you were working on?
Yes, both actually. The firebird I wound up selling to a friend of mine because he really wanted it, and the scout is parked out behind my house. I bought 3 scouts back in November for $350. I have one more to go pick up this spring, and I'm going to make a little woods buggy out of it.

So last night I took the car for a ride down my road.. successfully! It didn't have lights at all, but that's ok my neighbors know I'm a crazy car guy. I had rebuilt the holley on it last weekend, and took it for a ride the other day, but the carb was acting up. Well I'm a fuel injection guy so carbs are a new world to me.. but after some googling I learned that the previous owner had the vacuum lines hooked up wrong, and I had copied what he did. I swapped them around, readjusted the floats.. and it runs great. I'm definitely going to swap the powerglide out for the turbo 400 I have though.

That is awesome. Nice to live in an area where you can do stuff like that.
You will have that car on the road in no time!
I'm hoping I'll be driving it this summer! Then take next winter to make it nice again.. and yeah it's pretty rural here. We don't even have a police department, just state police, and sheriffs.. but we hardly ever see them.

Dude- You are living the dream!
Yes, and no Lol when you actually need them they're an hour out.

The older I get the more I like clean cars from the south west. Looks like a great project to me. Looking forward to seeing your progress.
That's why I bought this car, although it looks rough, it is very clean compared to any other nova's I've bought in the northeast.
