Awesome technique and very creative. I think for things like blocks, it would be extremely difficult to hide where the original number or code was ground off. I mean recreating the original raw casting pattern surrounding the number or code. Also, casting numbers are often in cumbersome, non-flat locations, complicating this method. And this method also produces much cleaner results than mass produced sand casting usually did.

I have heard stories of fake casting numbers, not sure I have ever seen anything.

It would be very tough. And if big money were on the line, I might run a weak magnet over some JB Weld numbers if I were suspicious. Seems it might be easier to get the right numbers and make a small sand casting. The lengths people will go to to commit fraud.

I don't think I've ever seen block casting numbers this clear and sharp, so very quickly suspicions would be aroused if something like this showed up. I also wonder how the JB Weld
would hold up over time in an application like this.
