Almost lost the front end of the 66

I was setting up my new truck with my Iron Panther steel deck car trailer yesterday to get the right drop on the draw bar. I then decided to see how it looked with the 66 on it. It all looked good so I backed the car off the trailer when I heard a cracking sound. I put the Nova in the shop and went to put my trailer ramps away (they store under the deck). Thats when I discovered that the tabs that hook on the lip of the trailer were bent and the welds were CRACKED. Upon closer inspection I realized the welds were not much more than tack welds. Its like it was fabricated but never had the welds completed. I have only had the car on the trailer about 4 times and I am so glad that I at least got the car off safely without the ramps giving way and having front of the car drop off. I will be heading over to where I bought the trailer tomorrow!

Glad you caught the way you did, mistake or not, it could have been ugly at the wrong time!
MAAAN!
THAT SOUNDS LIKE A CLOSE CALL, GLAD YOU CAUGHT IT! I'M ONDERING WHY SOMEONE WOULD SELL SOMETHING POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AND COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC.
Glad you caught it. Somebody could have been seriously hurt or property seriously damaged.
You might want to check the rest of the welds on the trailer....
Went back to the distributor who I bought the trailer from and they were a bit surprised. They took photos and will send them to Iron Panther. They sent me to a local weld/fab shop to get them repaired with a serious upgrade. Hopefully Iron Panther will reimburse the distributor or I may help them out with the repair cost.

The folks I bought it from took the pics. I thought about taking some but really I just want to get them out of my mind. The welds were about 3/8 to 1/2 inch long. I can't believe they ever held together. I am just glad they didn't break at the minis and I was able to get the car off safely
Is this the same trailer you brought your car on to the Mini Nats?

John
Yes it is! It is a nice trailer and makes getting the car over the mountains from Carson City a lot easier than driving it. With that being said, my goal is to drive the car over next year.
