I previously bought a new aftermarket tach for my inline 6.

It sits in the 68 instrument cluster - in place of the clock.

It worked very good for a couple of years.

Now I have a problem.

It appears to be accurate from zero to 1,500 but will not show anything above that range.

Is it time to buy another one ??

Does it have a switch for 4, 6 or 8 cylinder?

Long shot, but if the switch is oxidized maybe it would do that.

Try moving the switch (if it has one) back and forth a bunch of times.

If that helps, clean the switch.

I thought of that, but my unit does not have a switch.

To select the 6 cylinder engine, you have to cut a wire loop near the back of the instrument.
