Aftermarket Intake Help Needed

I picked up an Edelbrock Streetmaster spread bore intake and it has a 3/4" tapered hole in front of the thermostat beside the top bolt hole for alternator bracket, any idea what this hole is for and can I block it off?

I just wanted to replace my 2 barrel.

Sorry no pics.

I ran one of those when new in like....1975? I don't remember the hole, but then there are plenty of other things I can't remember either!

Alot of edelbrock and aftermarket intakes have an unused boss for tapping and adding what ever you want, maybe sometime in its 30+ year lifetime someone had a go at it?

Does the hole go down into the lifter valley or into the coolant passages?

It goes to the lifter valley, it look's to be for the oil filler tube. Is there someway off blocking it off or will I need to use a filler tube?

It is a filler hole. You use this when you have a older engine with sealed valve covers.

You can plug it with Freeze plug.

You can install a filler tube with a vent cap or none vented cap!
