I have a 72 Nova with a 350sbc and a upgraded cam. I just had a vintage air AC unit installed and I have idle issues when running the AC. When in drive at a stop or reverse it will die, idles too low. I heard of people putting in compensation solenoid, but can I just adjust the idle? I’m not a mechanic, so I’m looking for some help...Thanks!!

What is your idle in drive, brake on, air off?

You could bump up the idle. Maybe set it while the AC is on, to where it idles now with the AC off. Hopefully that wont make it idle to high in park.

He mentioned the solenoid in the OP, but it seems he would like to avoid that if possible and safe.

I turned it up a half turn and it drives a lot better. Think I need to turn it up a notch still. It idles hard when stopped in drive at the light. Doesn’t die anymore. Thanks for the help!

I would definitely add a kick up solenoid. It's not too tough to install and depending on your carb, you can probably buy one made for your specific carb.
