I hadn't been to 75-80 in 20 years.. Not much has changed. Still having timing light issues.. After sitting for 3 hours pst the start time, they started running off arm drop, no tickets, no et, no data. Worse off, I blew the trans at the 800ft mark, sent trans fluid and parts down on the track. Yes it was smoking like a freight train. I wasn't off the track and they sent more cars down.. I kept waiting for someone to check the track, or at least come and check on the car, still smoking sitting at the end of the track... Never happened..
About 1hr later, a twin turbo Willy's caught fire at the starting line.. Then the annoucement, "Does anyone have a fire extinguisher??" As the Willys cooked. They didn't even have a fire ext at the starting line...
Pitting in the grass/dirt, no operating timing system, poor safety...
I'll stick with Cecil...
I know this is a very old thread but I could not resist sharing memories with others. I raced my 1956 Chevy there in 1965 and my 1966 Chevelle in 1966. I remember Ronnie Sox, Malcom Durham, Dave Strickler, and Bill (Grumpy) Jenkins. I lived about 45 minutes away. I now live in New Mexico, but I have a brother who lives 3 miles away, so I will have to visit him soon. I just saw a video that says that the track opened again in July 2021. Does anyone else remember being there in 1965 and 1966?They may have sent someone down the track, but they sure didn't go to the end. I was standing beside my car until I heard 2 cars coming.
I am all for them getting on their feet, they said they had 8000 spectators Friday, so at least they are pulling in the $$. Good luck to um, but I won't be going back. I talked to Jay Sat, I know they are giving it a go, but man it
actually scared me. My car was smoking like it was on fire, fortunately it was just trans fluid cooking. But I stopped to think, if this was on Fire, it would have burned to the ground.
Do you still live in the area?I remember the 70's use to race my motorcycle there.
