72 nova wont shut off when hot

I have a 72 nova with the american autowire kit and the summit control box and distributor (MSD copy I think) with a bbc. The car has a 3 wire alternator as well. When the car is cold it shuts off like it is supposed to, however when it gets hot (185 degrees) and you shut the key in the off position it continues to run. It is not dieseling, idles fine with no change whatsoever with key in off position. However if you press on the gas with the car running and the key "off" it stumbles and runs poorly. Runs proper with key on. Also, if you hook a test light up to the pink ignition wire with the car running with the key in the "off position" it dies immediately. With the car running and the key in the "off position" if you unplug the two small wires going to the alternator the car dies immediately. The excite wire is hot with key on, not hot with key off. The pink ignition wire feeding the ignition box is also hot with key on and not with key off. We have a red power wire running from the ignition box to starter. We also tried running the main red power wire (for the ignition box)directly to the battery. Still didnt shut off properly. I switched the 3 wire alternator out of my chevelle to the Nova and no change. Still wont shut off properly. I thought it might be back feeding from the alternator since the car shuts off when you turn key off AND then unplug the 2 small wires running to the alternator. I have had 2 good old boys (literally) look at this and they are scratching their head as well. Please help!!
Alternator adaptor jumpers often ask if u need it with a resistor. If car still uses 'Batt' lite , resistor IS NOT needed. The lite prevents 'feedbak'
