I've read through some of the old posts about this but did not find the answer.

I have a '72 Nova with a column Automatic. Transmission was changed to a 700R4 some time before I got it. The back-up lights come on in Neutral only. I've tried adjusting the switch under the dash but I am told that the detents in the 700R4 are different than the TH350, so they don't line up exactly. Is there a fix for this, or will I need to go into the wiring and splice in a toggle switch? If so, which color wire is it. I'd like to have my back-up lights working.

Thanks...:)

a th350 is 3 speed an a 700r4 is 4 speed so the detents are not going to line up. i don't think you can adjust the back up light switch to work properly. you might have to change to a different back up light switch for a 700r4. just wonder if your neutral safety switch is working right, can you start the motor while it's in gear ? this place might be of help, shiftworks.com i think his name is carter.
