I bought an OER brand. It lays flat and is finished well but is literally a 3/8" too short on the ends where it is undercut to slip under the A pillar moldings.
In other words, the undercuting of the pad top starts too early relative to the moldings and you can see an 1/8" gap between the pad and the bottom of the pillar moldings. I hope this makes sense.

In previous posts here on SNS, it seemed to me the strongest recommendation was to take the original - assuming you have it, and have it reupholstered. The logic behind that was the quality of the repops in how they fit.
I followed that logic with a local upholstery shop using a marine-grade stretch vinyl and am more than pleased with the result.
That's just my opinion - you do what makes the strongest case for you.

I bought a excellent repro for my 68 from Chevy II only. Fits perfect and looks original

Of course that cost will vary based on your choice of upholsterer.

 

A 150 beats 250 which is the price I've seen for most repop's. It's a project car and I won't be driving it any time soon. Going to take my original - pad to a local upholsterer and see what if anything they can do? Thanks for all the advice guys! Great help!

Definitely take it to a good upholstery shop. I had my favorite local guy redo mine for just over $100 bucks, looks great.
