I have a 74 SS and a 69 4 door. I am putting the 69 front clip on the 74. Do I need to use the 69 sub frame with it too?

No, you won't need to swap the subframe.

But you will have to unbolt the adapter pieces that secure the impact absorbing bumper mounts to the 74 subframe and re-drill some holes to bolt up the 69 bumper brackets.
