68 nova 396 foil badge

Just bought a real nice passenger side 396 foil badge bezel off e-bay. It has a different number than the ones I have seen? Maybe a second design? The number on the back is 3920873 IMP.2 Or maybe someone put a 396 foil badge on another bezel? The one's I have seen Brent post had the part numbers 3921887 and 39211888. Any one have a driver side bezel they want to part with?

I looked at a set Tom William's has last night. They have a little bit more of a curve but not much. On the Bezel when looking down at it, the ends are wider than the one I have.

Jason
Dan that is interesting I think they will all work!

For what it is worth I was doing some searching at lunch and just found the same bezel that I have with the 327 insert?

Dan,

I was lookimg over at detroit horse power under my restoration from a couple of years back. You said this in a reply. Which car of yours had this bezel?

Jason,That looks like the 396 badge, just faded.I have one original 396 ID badge off my one Nova and it has part number 3920873 on back.Ed's right about the distance. Also on the top of the rad support were a series of small holes. The radiator on BB Novas bolt to the rad support too. Dan

Dan, I tried to find the link from detroit but it is coming up with an advertisement. It was the page from my restoration we were talking about the 396 foil bezels and you asked me if my car had them on it. Then you wrote what I posted above. The set Tom had are the same as the numbers you posted above 307-3929993 327-3929995 350-3929997 but they had the 396 foil inserts? They are not the original ones to his car just a set that he had aquired. They are cosmetically diffferent a little wider on the ends of the bezel but both have the same radius. Tom said he has a couple of 68 nova fenders with the 396 foil type bezels in storage and when it gets a little warmer he is going to look at them for me to get some numbers for us. He may have his original's also just tucked away in storage with all the original parts he has for the car.

If we can get all three together maybe we can see the difference. Maybe Brent can take a picture of the 3920874 bezel and compare them to the ones that came off his car.

Just another 68 chevrolet one year only item!!!!

Jeff,

I would say it is a semi black. Brent has a NOS set and I don't think they are flat black in the picture he posted. I know they are not glosss. Maybe Brent will reply with the picture. Just my 2 cents!

Jason
Jeff, Thanks for looking! That is the original off your green 68 L79 car you are doing correct? So that number was put on the 68 nova not just the Chevelle!
I agree it will form to the fender just fine because the after market ones are staight and when you tighten them up they form to the fender just fine. I hope to have a matched set soon!

Jason
Jeff,

I bet that made your day. I just bought a 3920874 off e-bay so I have a matched set now. You really can't tell the difference unless you have both bezel's side by side. Just my 2 cents.

Jason
Dan,Brent, and Jeff you all have NOS foils so any of you can respond. Does the foil inserts have some sort of glue or 2 sided tape on them or are they bare and need adhesive added?

Jason
Thank's Jeff that is good to know.

Jason
Jeff,
That is good to know. My car is an 05D car and it only had one embosed 396 bezel on it when I got it. Not sure if it is original or it was replaced when the car was painted silver in the late 70's? But why ony put one back on? I will never know.

Well I am now part of the 396 foil GPCL emblem club  I was going through my old parts and found my original 396 bezel that was on my car when I bought it. I thought it was the embosed type but it wasn't! It was the foil type with the 3 part numbers on the back. So thanks to Jeff Latondress who had his buddy re-crome my bezels for me that I purchased off of e-bay. I put them on the car last night and they look great. The foil inserts were removed with the help of a small propane torch to loosen the glue, then I used a small screw driver to remove them carefully. I taped of the 396 and gave them a fresh coat of semi black paint and re-glued them back onto the bezel. I think they came out real good. Just another 1 year only part to talk about!!!
