I have American racing torq thrust d wheels 15x8 with a 4.5 backspace on the rear and it turns out they don't fit. The edge of the tread is hitting the lip under the fender and the sidewall is about an inch lower than the bottom of the fender which if I hit a bump it will.hit. I was thinking of switching to a 15x7 with a 3.75 backspace which will give me a 1/4 inch more clearence but I don't want to buy them till I know if they will work. Any help would be appreciated. I run 225/60r15 tires right now.

Normally a 15x7 with 4.5 back spacing is the best fit and will allow for a 235x60x15 tire. This would be with a stock rear axle and drum brakes.Smaller tires and less back spacing ???? maybe

X2, however I use a 245/60-15. Had a slight rub on the right with a full load of fuel and passengers in the back (axle is not centered like on many). Went to a coilover shock, ok now. Use the 235 to be sure.

your going the wrong way....if you want an 8" rim you will need 5.5 back space...with a 7" rim you can do 4.5bs...the rears are the easy ones...its the fronts you have to worry about......what do you have up front for brakes...is it lowered?
