I have been trying to remove the passenger's-side vent window from my '66 Nova Four-Door Sedan with no success. What I am really trying to accomplish is changing out the vent window weatherstripping. I have removed all screws and nuts that hold the vent window in place, along with removing the window stop from the door. Even when I roll the window as far down as it will go, I am still unable to angle the vent window assembly from the door. If anyone has any tips on how to do this, that would be greatly appreciated.

I have come across tutorials like this http://rides.webshots.com/album/563916466IftqdC?start=24, but it doesn't show how to remove the vent window assembly from the door.

Here are a few pictures of the car:

did you remove the door panel and remove the nut from the lower leg of the wing assy? pictured here image 4d-17, just below and to the left of #9? in image 4d-18 it's located just below the door handle mechanism...

Yes, I have removed that retaining nut as well. I can begin to remove the vent window, but it won't come all the way out of the door. It seems like the door glass is in the way, even though I removed the stop and rolled it down as far as it will go.

image 4d-17. see the regulator forming an "X". it's the horizontal piece on the lower right leg. 2 bolts. the regulator wheels can be slipped from the window track's groove and removed, also remove the three bolts retaining the regulator (by the crank handle)

if you'd rather take a look at the assembly manual's pages for a '66 (it's noted in that album the door/window info is '62-'65, but it's all basically the same exact stuff) take a look in the "Best Of" 1st/2nd genner forum. the assembly manual is saved in PDF form. it's not a manual but an exploded view of the ChevyII's components. the door should be pictured there.

i know this stuff gets to be a pita, but study these Fisher pages and look at your door. it's the same stuff. i know too that they're showing the Coupe & Vert but other than the removable A frame the vents are installed in the doors the same way. it's not that hard or too too time consuming to just gut the door. there is only a few bolts and the window regulator & door opening mechanisms are completely out of the way. the window can be left inside the door gently placed. the wing vent will slide right out.

start at the beginning and just check out all the text & images... you'll get it. ;)

these initial images were from NNN's wing vent rebuild tech. i added the riveting tool images, all the rest are from the '65 Fisher body manual, it's what GM used in conjunction with the assembly manuals, shop, chassis and accessory manuals. the '66 manuals are also available, as i said previously, check assy manual to familiarize yourself more (best of forum)

tryin' ta help...

JR, thanks for all of your help!

My car does not have the "X" with the horizontal brace on the lower-left leg. It only has the larger arm that goes from lower left to upper right and connects to the crank mechanism. Here are some pics of the Lower Sash Channel Cam:

Any other suggestions? I feel as though there is something I am missing that will allow me to remove the vent window, but maybe I need to remove all of the hardware in the door? I don't want to start un-bolting nuts or anything that may be difficult to redo if it is not necessary. Thanks!

the regulator will either bolt to or slide into the window roller track. if the three main bolts for the crank handle mechanism needs to be unbolted to slide rollers from the track, then unbolt them.

you can purchase the 2nd genner Fisher manual here, it will cover your year of car...
