I have a friend that bought a 66 and hes looking to upgrade the rear differential. I am trying to remember what will fit, I believe S10 4wd will fit without cutting not sure of years and I believe there is a ford 8.8 out of ? that might also work . Can someone refresh my memory, thanks in advance.

If memory serves, a mid 2000's ranger diff is also correct width but the pinion is offset more to one side. If lowered a lot the drive shaft may have tunnel clearance issues otherwise guys have run them without issue.

The 8.8 has to be narrowed on one side and still you will need to weld on suspension mounts and order special offset wheels. How much HP are you talking about? I went through my 8.2 and I have over 400HP with no issues.
The 8.8 explorer needs to be narrowed but the ranger is the correct width already. The ranger will have 28 spline axles and drum brakes.
