I have a 66 nova ss, L79, 327, 4 speed, 12 bolt rearend that I just bought from my neighbors widow. He bought new. it has 13,000 original miles. My question is on the engine pad, there is no vin #. The block is dated correct for the car. Did they make L79 motor without the vin # on the pad in 1966? Thanks Larry

There would be a number of ways to determine one way or the other if the drivetrain were original to the car. This site has some members with amazing knowledge of Novas, '66 L79 cars in specific. Tell us more about the car! Any documents?

The only 1966 L79 Chevy IIs I've seen without a partial VIN on the engine are cars built in Canada. VINs were not stamped in Canada. Decking usually obliterates the VIN and the suffix code, so that's a possibility. Is the suffix code there? The date on it should precede the body build date shown on the cowl tag. Any chance it's a Canadian car? The VIN plate will say Canada on it if it is.
