my car was makeing noise in the back like rattling so jacked the backup and shook the tires the right side seem fine but the left shook it had play Do i need new axle or can i just get bearings

I would take it apart and inspect first.If the bearing is bad it takes the axle with it.They do make axle saver brearings but I would not recomend putting them in a car with any horse power.

up to a 1/16" in & out is normal end play. side to side or up & down is not ok. If an axle is moving up & down or side to side it will most likely need an axle since the axles ride on the bearing rollers. A repair bearing will get you back in action for a while but will start to leak within a year in most cases and then the axle will need to be replaced for sure. The standard bearing & seal (if axle is ok) is 5707 for the bearing & 8660S for the seal, the repair bearing is a RP5707 (seal & bearing as 1 unit).
