It's a factory speedo with a recently replaced cable. I got another original on ePay, same issue.

It's fine at first but then seems to 'warm up' and squeal loudly after about 5 miles. I'm thinking this might be a chronic problem after 40+ years. Is there any way to lubricate it? Are the repop units any good?

Did some checking and it looks like a graphite based lube is the stuff I need. I'll get some from my local auto parts store and give it a try.

Yeah if you had two speedometers that do the same thing, it's most-likely the cable.

Agreed. I got the 2nd gauge cluster to return it back to a factory look. I'm adding Autometer gauges for water temp, volts and oil pressure. Got the gen light working!

Put some vasiline on that sucker...I haven't squeaked in years.......Seriously
