I know 64 was the first year the factory installed V8's in the Nova. Could you order a 64 Chevy II 100 with a factory V8?

In 1964, the 195 HP/283 CID V/8 was RPO L32 and could be ordered for any model of Chevy II for $108. Because it was was an option, there is nothing in the VIN of any '64 Chevy II to indicate what engine a specific car had. As an example, six cylinder and V/8 Super Sports both show model 0447 in the VIN.

What about the L77 option? I have a 64 Chevy II 100 series wagon that is a factory V8 4 speed car that I have been accumulating parts for, to build as a L77 optioned car. I don't know if I will ever get to it.

I knew somebody would ask about this. The 283/220HP L77 V/8 engine option was not available until the last 4-5 months of 1964 Chevy II production. It's shows as a January, 1964 revision to the GM Heritage Center site Vehicle Information Package and is listed in the 2nd printing of the 1964 Chevy II showroom brochure. I can't find any numbers on how many of these engines went into 1964 Chevy IIs, but I think they were quite rare.

Thanks Bob, I knew you would have the answer. I'm building a 64 Chevy II 100 and I am putting all the trim the 100 came with back on the car. I am installing a V8 so was wondering if the V8 emblems would be incorrect from an originality aspect.

Biggest Nova regret for me was a Chevy II. Bought from the second owner, a '64 100 series 283/195 with factory 4-speed. NO other extras, period. Originally purchased in Riverside, CA, it had absolutely no rust and no dents. They did make 100 series V-8's for '64-'67.
