Ok people I am doing a 5 lug conversion on my 63.
Im in search of backing plates out for both sides, as the rear end i have did not come with them.
I know some of you did rear disc conversions and may have these laying around.
The 9.5 drum brakes that were on 10 & 12 bolt gm rear ends.

I have both rears in the garage and took measurements. The 64 and newer backing plates have a different bolt pattern and center hole diameter where they bolt onto your 63 rear end housing. The 9.5 inch backing plates could be modified to bolt on, the bigger problem is the distance from the housing flange to the axle flange. The 63 brakes were 9 x 1.750 and the 64 and up are 9.5 x 2. Therefore the axle flange is sticking out of the housing .250 more on the 64 and up rear to accommodate the wider brake drum.
If you are re-drilling your axles, you would have to use a .250 spacer between the drum and axle (not ideal) which would also push your wheels out the same.
If you are having new axles made you would have to tell them to move the flange out .250.
A lot of work when there are easier ways to get a 5 lug rear.
