In replacing the turn signal switch:
Does the signal housing attach to the column by the 3 tabs on the column and the 3 slots on the hub? Is it suppose to seat a little left of center then turn
a tad clockwise to center it?
Initially I removed all components right on the column while setting in the car, and now bench assembled the complete housing, and trying to install and it just wont seat.
Is this the wrong way? column.jpg 20200112_115803.jpg

You got it. Yes, it goes in the slots and turns. When it stops turning, it should be oriented perfectly level with the turn signal lever and, if automatic trans, the lens indicator. When you screw in the turn signal switch, it pulls the housing and switch toward the driver, holding it tight to the tabs on the column.

I had to rebuild my column (which turned out to be from a later model. 68?) and figured out eventually that I couldn't bench-assemble it then install. It had to be 'built' as it went onto the column. I can't remember exactly what the trick ended up being, but I remember the same frustration, then the realization.
