I looked in search and did not find this.

I have about 1/4 turn free play in my stock non power steering wheel. Only the wheel is turning nothing else, all ball joints and tie rod ends are not moving yet.

I have been told there is a way to take at least part of this play out of the box.

Can anybody help with this?

Thanks

There is an adjuster on the steering box. It's on top and has a locking nut around it. Loosen the nut and tighten the center bolt (1/4 turn at a time to be safe) tighten the jam nut and recheck the play. If necessary do it again until the play is gone. If you have to tighten it more than one full turn, your box is probably worn out and needs to be rebuilt. BTW, It's best to do this with the front end raised.
