Does anyone know what size speaker came in the package tray on a first gen? I would like to install the most powerful speaker available in that size and avoid from cutting any of the metal.

I just cut mine out with a die grinder and thru it in the garbage. mine looked to be slightly smaller than a 6x9 and I doubt it was original. Looks like you could mount just about whatever you wanted back there though.

yeah I've been thinking about cutting it, but a little too much over thinking it. My car is no longer all original so I might as well cut it and install two 6x9's.

I mounting in my car two 4 inch speaker in a piece of wood with the form of the original speaker, and work really good (really I put 2 in front and 2 in rear) my radio was modified and now i have the original radio working, but with a modern amplifier (4 x 45 watts), bluetooth and auxiliar input
the original speaker was a 5x9 inch
