I used to have a 62 car that was (and still is) titled as a 63. This used to happen frequently - particularly when the DMV rules were pretty "loose". In New York, cars weren't titled prior to 1973 or 1974 ... so it may be as simple as someone filling out a title application incorrectly years ago, and it's followed the car.

I think it would only be an issue if you wanted to sell the car, and a potential purchaser called you on the error.

There's no harm in calling the NM DMV to see how to fix the problem, IMO.

Cheers, Tim

Yes, many years ago when DMV laws weren't so strict, cars were titled by the calendar year, not the model year. 1963 model year Novas were built from September 1962 (calendar year) through August 1963 (calendar year). So it's very possible your 1963 model year Nova was built, sold and registered in late 1962 calendar year and therefor, titled as a 1962 Nova.

Does the vin on the title match the vin on the car. If so, dont worry about it.

If the cowl tag says the car was manufactured in 10, 11 or 12, someone probably got it registered before the end of the year in 1962.
