Pro tip: spend more time masking, less cleaning, don't ask me how I know....🙄

First I sanded the inside of the rear bumper, cleaned it and sprayed it with a rust converter/primer followed by a coat of black paint.

I cleaned the rear wheels and while they were off I checked my brake shoes.... I had no experience with this and mounted the front and rear shoes the wrong way round on 1 side of the car....so that is checked and fixed now too.

I de-rusted the license plate light housing, polished the lens, painted the housing and added a ground wire for trouble-free operation.

Then I cleaned and plastic dipped the rear bumper, mounted the license plate and then the bumper on the car. Good progress 😃

I wanted to have the trunk lid finished before it went to the upholsterer... didn't quite make it though. The inside is painted and the outside is still in primer so after I mounted it I covered it in plastic for transport. Drove it up the trailer on it's own power. It does take a lot of turns lock to lock on the steering.... might need a quick ratio box in the future.

Now it is gone to have the headliner installed..... and maybe I'll have him do the rear seat too.... if budget alllowes. This is the only Nova I know of that has a factory arm rest... (probably an option only available in Switzerland where this body came from)

nice job. this is my first time seeing pillars covered with vinyl, very creative; it spices up a pretty bland area. have seen so many of these cars now, seeing something new is refreshing.

what vendor did you purchase the windlacing from?

Thanks guys!
Rusty, I got the windlace from a company here in the Netherlands that sells all kind of rubbers. I just looked at the dimensions of the original and ordered based on that. Vinyl on the B pillar was actually used originally on the Swiss donor car I bought. It also had an armrest in the rear seat! Never seen that before on Nova's.

Also received the smaller trim/windlace for the front and rear of the headliner... 10 minute job to install that. I have plans for the center console, base is a mark 1 Volkswagen Golf (rabbit) console, I'll use the cloth with epoxy resin to get the basic shapes.

the lower end Chevy ll's didn't have the rear seat arm rests. the 400 model an ss model did have the arm rest. there is a pair of rear arm rest bases for sale on steves site at the present, if your looking.

Some progress on the center console.... smoothed with body filler, covered with foam and vinyl and made aluminum trim pieces. Made some brackets to secure the console in place an welded them to the tunnel. I can tighten the bolts through the radio opening. Not done yet but getting there.

Since the passenger side kick panel vent connotatie be removed without removing the heater box I made some modifications.

I cut the vent in two and glued the visible part to my kick panel. Made a flange and glued that to the part that holds the vent door so now it can pass through the hole into cowl area. Made a flange that screws to the body and to the part that holds the vent door. Sealed it with rtv gasket and now my panel can easily be mounted and removed if I need access.

2022 started with work on the Nova.... the seats are connected electrically and I have applied insulation to the floor. I didn't have enough, just needed a bit more material so I ordered that so I can finish it this week.

Did the final bit of insulation ran a tap through the seat mounting nuts and a die over the bolts since they were clogged with paint and underbody coating. Some copper grease and now they go in as they should. I welded a brace between the seat frames to make it stronger and easier to install. Ground them to bare metal, enlarged the bolt holes a tiny bit, bevelled the edges and gave them a coat of primer.

I've put in the carpet today. Still need to make holes for the seat bolts and the high beam light switch.

Slowly it's starting to look like a car again. 😃

Next time make the holes, paint the seat frames and clean the seats before I install them (hopefully for the last time, they weigh a ton)
