Here we go. 454HO GM crate engine. I put on in my 71SS Nova. Thousands later, what do I have? A smoking the blues big block. Hard to tune etc. The stories are out there, these engines smoke and use oil. Tonight I thought I would rip the intake off and take a look see. The bone heads at the factory decided to install the lifter galley shield with the tabs sticking up into the intake gasket so that the intake would not seal properly as the gasket is on top of the shield. I installed a FelPro gasket set which is designed to work around the tabs on the lifter galley shield. Spread the word. First thing to do with these engines is to replace the intake gasket set.
