I was talking to my engine builder at the machine shop regarding the 3791362 block. I found two 327 L30 blocks last month and he was saying they are rarer than hens teeth. The blocks were purchased for $200 each and one was found on Craigslist and the other at an auto repair shop. Obviously, the L30's were more common than the L79's or was that just plain luck? I am not boasting just looking for input! The codes are ZA and ZK (4 speed 275hp and automatic 275hp). The blocks were also date coded August 8, 1966. We purchased two 1967 Coupes and are currently restoring the cars with the L30 engines.

The '362' block was used for all L30 and L79 Chevy IIs from late October/66 right through 1967. I'd say there are quite a few of them still around.

3791362 casting number

OK so I have this 327, which came out of a 65 impala vert...casting number 3791362...suffix codes are A09I5ZA It is supposedly a 65 nova motor...rear casting at the bellhousing area has an H156 cast mark.....I m not sure what this series of numbers stand for.does anyone know ? If its a 65 a guy in the bay area may be intersted in buying it, if its a 66 my buddy in reno wants it for his 66 ss nova...I originally bought it and had it built for my 65 el camino, but I sold the car, so now I have this rare motor....just need to find out how rare...

Does it have the recessed oil filter boss? Also the last numbers you ask about I believe are the casting date code (H156) should be Aug. 15 1966 if Im not mistaken.
