Im planning on a SBC swap, but in the meantime, and to get me more familiar with engine work, i was thinking of swapping out the head on my 76.

I remember reading a 292 will fit, as will a 194, but im not sure what would benefit me most. Anyone have some insight?

Also considering 307 pistons. I remember reading they help raise compression.

Doesn't you car had the integrated head (intake/head one piece)?

If you go to an earlier design, you would have to find a seperate intake.

Sizes were 194, 230, 250 and truck 292.

Yup, part of the reason i plan on replacing it. I was thinking of going with a smaller 4bbl.


Anyone know the pro's/con's of each head?

Integrated head is a disaster. Known for cracks and heat problems. Ditch it and swap everything over to older style head.
If you can find a 194 head you have more to work with to get some performance gains. But a good 250 head is fine.

I see 250's from early camaros all over CL. Maybe I'll just keep it 250 with a nice intake and dual exhaust?
