I Currently have a 1970 Nova with a 10 bolt 8.5 posi rear end. I was blessed by a friend with a 12 bolt out of a 69 Camaro. Does anybody know if that a direct swap or if the widths are different? and yes, I could have spent some time measuring for myself but then I wouldn't of been able to hear...

I found a used z28 8.5" GM differential with a limited slip differential and 3.42 gears for a good price. I'm going to take a look at it this weekend. Any tips for checking to make sure it's in good shape? Will inspect the gears for chips/wear. Any tricks to checking out the bearing health?

I rebuilt my 8.2" 10-bolt on my 70 with new gears and Yukon LSD. It has about 100 miles on it now. During hard braking there is a whir noise like there is a flat spot on a bearing. No other noise during cruise, coasting, accel or deccel. Here is a picture of the gear wear. This is my first diff...

I've got a 79 nova, hasn't been on the road since '98 and last week first time driving it since spending 4 years rebuilding it. Was told it used to drag at a local 1/8 mile. Axle seal started leaking so I'm gonna replace bearings and seals and when I popped the cover off I found this clip in the...

I've read on line that a completely dry and rebuilt 12 bolt rear end will take up to six quarts to fill. I thought that must be a typo and they must mean six pints but they swear it's six courts. I thought it only two or three quarts but I'd like to be sure at $28/quart. Since I spent $2k on...

Hello to Chevy Forum family. This is my first post and so hopefully someone will be able to help or provide some insight as to how to tackle this problem. Hello everyone, I purchased a 8.5" 10 bolt a while back with posi and 4:56 gears; the spider gears in the posi need to be replaced, there is a big chip in one of them. Everywhere I look it seems you can only buy spider gears for open rear ends only. This may sound like an ignorant question...

What's up everyone. Hope you all had a great new years. I recently purchased and restored the rear end panel molding for my 72. I only have the "before" picture and will post the "after" when i get it installed. ITS BASICALLY AN SS PANEL WITHOUT THE "SS" ON IT. Here's my questions. There is 4...

  18. LSx Forum
OK guys, I have about 700 miles on my LS1 swap and I am ready to change the rear end ratio. I plan to do it myself this winter. I have a stock 63 wagon rear end, I'm guessing 3:55 and I'm going to install a 3:08 and a POSI or limited slip. The reason for the drop in ratio is I'm running the...
