72-74 headlight harness

I have a 74 nova that the the front was converted to a 72 when I made the swap I made the 74 marker light wires wire up to the marker lights in bumper. At this point the harness is pretty beat and wondering if a 72 headlight harness would plug up into fire will not sure if 74 was a whole lot different if someone knows please let me know help is greatly appreciated thanks!

You have to look at the major basic differences between the two years. The 72 has an external voltage regulator while the 74 has the internal regulator. There is also a main feed difference between the two years.

So in short, NO, the 72 light harness will not work in a 74 and be a straight unplug/plug in type of deal. I have to think maybe there are some things that are consistent like the low beam wire is in the bulkhead connector spot A3 and the high beam in A4, but then the 74 bulkhead connector has the ignition 12V output for the alternator on spot B2 and on a 72 harness it's on something like C5.

I would be on the lookout for either a donor 74 harness from another car or maybe see if anyone like M&H or American Autowire offer anything.

Yep, sometimes too I hope that things interchange between the years but what you are wanting to do will not be an off the shelf plug and play.

If you do get a new 74 harness, also buy some harness tape and then untape the new harness, modify what wires you need to and then tape it back up using the specialized harness tape.

Hey bud, Classic Industries has American Autowire harnesses for the 72 with options. Look for the one with internal regulator alternator. That will work on your 74.
