Tear Down Begins

Time flys!! Benjamin is 9 already, and we need to make some progress on this car, So, I put him to work - took a few hours, but the front end is off. Next is the front suspension removal, then pull the frame and blast it. We hope to reinstall the frame and front suspension this Spring before we get too involved in Jr Dragster racing again.

Here's some pics:

One last pic before we tear it apart:

Here's my Benjamin - these kids grow too fast! My Amanda is 5.5, won't look at a car unless its pink or purple - preferably with a Princess motife, My other son Danny is 3.5 already - his Camaro is next in line.

Hard at work,

Everything cleaned up and put away for the day, the suspension will have to wait for another day.

The subframe is beautiful on this car, as were the floors, rockers, f/wall, etc... Should be really nice when done.

Family

My sons have worked all sorts of projects with me and now the oldest grandson is working on the latest. He has a vision of going to the races at Seattle International and watching Dad & Grandpa run the car down the track. Doesn't get much better unless it's watching him catch his first salmon.

tear down

YenkoDR looks like a great starting place - looks lik what I started with - only more stuff was stripped out of mine - looks like a BB 4sp car too- sweet! whats the plans for the motor? BB-SB? going back rally green? Love the wheels- classic! and please don't let him have it at 16 they need a "bumper" car for a year or two - trust me! I will be following your build

Glad you are getting started. Rally Green is a nice color, big block 4 speed can't beat it! Doing it with your son even better.

Thanks all, we are having a good time with this - the tear down is easy and cheap! The real work (& cost) begins with the rebuild, We got the passenger side of the front suspension completely removed yesterday, always a bit leary about removing the coil springs. I use the right tool though, makes it a bit easier. We'll finish the other side in a week or so, then take more pics.

Removed the original fuel line, had blue clips as normal. We'll hang onto it. We found that the left side, front, inner wheel bearing was starting to fail. Likely a botched repair from the past as there was some minor damage to the front fender (behind the front bumper) and the upper ball joint was cotter pinned with a 6D nail!

Can't wait to see what markings we find when we clean up the suspension components, we'll photo that too.
