In the next few weeks I'm going to get a custom exhaust system installed. I have a ZZ4 with soon to be installed LT4 hot cam. Maybe some new heads sometime in the future, not sure..
But, anyone think a 3 inch exhaust is too big for my setup?
ZZ4
Headman Headers 1 5/8 into 3 inch collectors
LT4 hotcam (soon)
Edelbrock air gap
Holley 650 dbl pump
Eaton Posi with 3:73's
Here's a link I found that seems to be very informative. I'm leaning towards the 3 inch but, it would be nice to get some input from people who installed a 3 inch running a small block like mine. http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Miscella...austtheory.htm
My buddy runs 3" with his 425hp small block,I think it's more about bragging rights though.I like running everything tame and being able to out run the braggers! It's a real good idea to research what the manufacture recommends,in all honesty it would be nice to see it on a dyno and crunch the track #'s.

With your motor you're fine with 2.5" I'm using this one on my ZZ383, Phillip pointed it out. Comes with Flowmater Super 44s which are supposed to sound just a tad deeper than the 40s and a bit better flow. Now there are better mufflers than Flowmaters so lets not go there.
Just look around for an American Thunder Flowmaster system that fits your car if you should like it.
Has an H pipe which I wanted because because I don't care for the sound of an X, maybe sacrificing a bit of flow but I don't care I wanted the sound of an H.
I've since switched to all band clamps, the ones that came with the kit sucked. They worked to get up.

I'm far from an exhaust expert but I don't necessarily agree with everything that is on that site. "For engines making 250 to 350 horsepower, the generally accepted pipe diameter is 3 to 3 ? inches." ?? Considering it is a Nissan website I'm curioius when they talk about exhaust size if they aren't talking about a single exhaust pipe.
FWIW I have a 2-1/2 exhaust and ran a dismal 11.5X, dropped the exhaust and gained a tenth with no additional collectors or any other changes. So I don't think the exhaust is holding me back too much. A 2-1/2 diameter system would complement your engine nicely. But...I just got some 3" Dynatech mufflers I'm itching to try!!
