Rear End Width - 1970 nova

I am in the process of building a 9" for my 70 Nova. I have the rear out of an 1982 F150 that measures 65" axle to axle. Unfortunatly I have sold my old 10 bolt without taking accurate measurements for getting the 9" narrowed. Can anyone tell me the overall width - outside of axle to axle of a 70 nova rear end? thanks in advance.

Be sure to check your pinion offset before you cut.

65 inches is too wide, a stock 10 bolt is 60-1/4.have the housing narrowed and buy good axels, moser, mark wiliams, strange.then you need to measure for a drive shaft.make sure the pinion is centered, and gear ratio is right for what you are doing with the car.good luck. vonbondo.

My 12 bolt measures 60" from outside axle to outside axle where the drum would sit.

Thanks for the info, 60" it is, might go 1/2" less to allow for the extra thickness of discs from drums. Allready have a 31 spline detroit locker, richmond 4.11's, multileaf perches and the install kit for it. Will order the axles (moser) after I get it narrowed, hopefully can find someone to do it in the next week or so.
