Rosette Rivets?

Where can Rosette Rivets be bought at a reasonable cost? Trim Tags doesn't sell them anymore according to the girl that just answered the phone.

I DO NOT NEED THEM.

My cousin is working on a 67 Chevelle and is basically going to rebody the car. I know there are many of you that don't like this, but I am just asking to try to help him.

I could use a source for these too. I had to remove all my trim tags when I had my body chemically dipped. The dipping solution will eat up anything that is not steel

Rosette Rivets are used on the VIN and they are not available to the public. There is very limited availability to them. Your State Police or County Sheriff's department are in possession of them. They have a set of procedures and paperwork that need to be followed for moving a VIN from one piece of sheet metal to another.

Regardless of what anyone thinks it ain't legal to move a VIN from one body to another.

totally illegal but with that said cut the section of the dash with the VIN out of the "bad" vehicle and weld it back into the dash of the "Donar" car. this way the hard to get/dupicate rosette rivits remain intact. Its been done before...heck there have been a few lawsuits in the past based on this very thing.

BTW, I am in no way condoning the above action and I'm just mentioning it for educational purposes only

If you look in Hemmings you'll see there is a Canadian guy that sells rosette rivets. I think they are like $50 per pair.

Are these the rivets that hold the VIN tag on my '63 inside the door jamb? If so how do you go about fixing one because mine is hanging by the lower rivet only. Didnt look like rivets to me though, just indentions in the VIN tag itself.

The tag in the door jamb of my 62 did not have rivets from the factory. It was just sorta punched through the tag into holes in the door jamb. I hope that makes sense. Like they used some kind of punch and just punched a hole through the metal of the tag and the metal of the tag sort of rolled through the hole on the door jam and held it in place. Mine was very loose too.

Yeah thats what I thought, didnt notice any rivets, just kinda punched through like you mentioned.

My brother works at a plant driving a hi lo. I had told him about the rivets. One day they sent him for a palet of them as they ran out of the regular rivets for some moldings and were riveting them on with the rosette ones. He helped himself to a rather large box of them so I'm pretty well stocked up on them lol. I thought the older cars used a differant style of rivet though. I know to re tag a late model body the correct way in Michigan the State Police come out and have to witness the old tag being removed and issue the new rivets and watch you atach it to the new vehicle. A friends shop screwed up and drilled off the tag ahead of time and had to by the customers car.
