Fireball Crane Cams HI-6 Ignition System

While investigating the compadability of the Crane Cams HI-6 Ignition System with a HEI distributor I see that a coil is used in the set up http://www.cranecams.com/pdf/90006462b.pdf

Not being too savy on the elec config of a motor I am confused. I thought the HEI distributor did not use a coil. If I am correct does this mean I need to add a coil to use the HI-6 Ignition System? pic of my motor attatched.

The HI-6 Ignition System lists for 219.00 -224.00. I can get a used one for less than half of that, so am interested in its compadability with my 406.

Your picture shows a large cap/coil-in-cap HEI distributor.

Yes, you will need a coil.

Here's a like to the installation instructions for the "summit" brand ignition box.
Scroll down to page 8 to see install instructions for the coil-in-cap distributors.

You should find everything you need to know in the above link.

Hope that helps!
