So an update on my heap - dumped the ol' 6 got the new front end on - found a lot of rust at the outsides of the firewall, cut it out and repaired it, seam sealed and paint. Now i have the front end on but no struts or steering... engine is coming this week but i don't want to start building headers until i get the thing on the ground and know the clearance around the struts... so I'm STUCK! Started on a 25.2 cage (hoop and the windshield roof bars are bent up and fitted but the bulk of the cage will be done in a few weeks here then i'm stuck again if the parts don't start showing up.

Frustrating!

I have a lot of bars left for the 25.2 cage but I'm done most of the bends - the straight bars will go pretty quick with only notching required... And then I'll be at least a week welding it all up because my back isn't so great I won't be able to do it in one attempt. The 25.5 cages I have done (mine and a friend's) were hard on my body. I expect the wagon to be much easier though!

SO my fingers are crossed that the struts will arrive before i'm done this part and am completely stuck. Worst case scenario I'll try to find someone with a set of single adjustables in stock and just run those instead as I am losing my patience on many fronts. I PAID for my shortblock back in Feb but it AIN'T HERE YET!
Sounds good. If you really wanted to buy some singles if you get in a pinch I would sell them also. I really want the dbl Santhuffs myself and have nothing but time. Otherwise your welcome to borrow them.

Not sure if anyone has put a 25.2 cage in a wagon while keeping stock interior (and bench seat). If not, I would like to think of myself as a trailblazer in stupidity.

Got the smith front end on after fixing up some firewall rust. New rad support. Still waiting on my struts but i hear they should be here soon. Same goes for my rack (still haven't heard from John - weird?! It's been about 2 months since i heard from him).

Going through the SFI specs and talked to a chassis inspector and i am "cool" on my funnycar cage design. The hoop and funnycar cage are in - next i will take it out as a unit for the welding. In the meantime i am taking out the bench to put the floor bars down above the floor - why cut it if you don't need to? The #6ABC bars will require a hole through the tunnel but everything else can be above the floor and below the carpet.

Engine arrives this thursday - then onto the turbo headers...
LOOKING GOOD!! I REALLY like how you did the funny car hoop over the bench seat instead of cutting on the seat.

I love you man!! I had a couple ideas on how to not cut up the seat to do it myself. Weither I do my way or copy your way you got me seriously thinking about recovering my factory seats now. I'd planned to do the Kirkeys like John did in his.

The front bench is definately lighter than the two front factory buckets in my chevelle. The rear bench however is very heavy due to the steel back for when it folds down. I have notched it to clear the tubs but I haven't modified the rear seat yet. I'll get on that after I get the cage finished.

Last night I took out the hoop with funnycar cage attached and did about 95% of the welding. I will finish the welding tonight and put it back in so I can start making all the floor bars.

My chevelle was originally going to be 25.5 but now I'm adding a few bars to make it 25.2 and I managed to keep the front and rear factory seats too.

Yes and yes.

And nobody asked me about my firewall paint color. It came in a rattle can with a black cap. LOL. Semi gloss.

The concept is cool, but just how functional is that without any verticle seat/driver back support to be one with the cage. The though of gettin out of shape and backing that into a guardrail scares me. Nice work though.

i agree with you rookie;;i don't think this will tech to a 25.2 cage.also noticed the front end is a bolt on unit that bolts to the stock firewall..that for sure won't tech to 25.2 specs.BUT HA IT LOOKS GOOD and long as you are happy with it that is all that matters..

but you are doing nice job .really like the front end.what engine and what size back slicks are in the plains?

Nice work lump - and very informative posts as well! Keep the pics coming!

The Smith front clip looks sick - as they all do...

I'm hoping to get Andy(Smith) to build me one - with motor mounts, not plates, if he'll ever fax me a quote. He said they've done one that way and still have the jig/tooling(whatever..) to do it again.
