33 spline axle for 8.5 rear

I`m building a drag car, a Datsun 240z and installed a 8.5 rear. I`m looking into axle combo sets and since the price is the same up to 33 spline. I might as well get 33 spline.

My question is, can 33 spline axles fit into a stock 8.5 rear without any modifications? If not what`s the biggest that will fit.

Thanks,
Mark

I think most 8.5" came with 28 spline, that's what mine is and it's stock, in which case you would have to switch to a 33 spline carrier.

Yes, I`m looking into a Strange package and Moser also have a simular set and pricing. Where you get a spool, c-clip and axles up to 33 spline for $600 some odd dollars.

I'm getting ready to get the Moser package for my 8.5" 10-bolt. You have to run their spool with the 31 & 33 spline axles. You will have to cut down the axle tubes outside of the backing plates for the c-clip eliminators to be installed (just found this out).
