Ric, you can't access the buy/sell on the Yenko site unless you're a member. Can you post some info on this car? Does it have proof that it's an original L79?

Thanks for the pics, Ric. Yeah, a nice chrome fuel filter wouldn't have looked out of place on an L79 Chevy II. I have a couple of Chevelle L79 (not El Camino) pics and none of them have the coil located like this one. This has to be a rare truck.

no, it wasn't, it was on the left side rear, pretty much what i'd call stock location... and mine had a cast iron intake with a Q/Jet

same air cleaner and v/c's though... so maybe when i said it was the same set up... i should have clarified a bit more... my apologies to ya

You also mentioned (in your discussion with Bob) that yours had a cast iron intake & a Q-jet. 1965 Chevelle L79's had the aluminum intake & holley & were rated at 350hp. The 1966 & 1967 Chevelle L79's had a cast iron intake & a Q-Jet & were rated at 325hp. Why they were detuned, I don't know. A popular theory among all of us Chevelle guys at the time was that the 1965 350hp L79's could run with the 325hp & 350hp 396 Chevelles. And the General didn't want that when they were trying to sell SS396 Chevelles in 1966. I had a very nice 1965 El Camino for many years that was very similar to this one. Mine was the same color combination but had buckets & a console & was a 300hp 327/4-speed car. I sold it to a gentleman in Rosemont, California in the early 1990's. I still have a runner-up plaque for the car from the Super Chevy Show in Topeka hanging on my garage wall.

i traded my #9 55 Chevy straight across for the Chevelle... the guy who wanted it wanted my drivetrain i later learned for his 68 Camaro, which other than the antenna ball was identical to his best friends and his Camaro was faster than the Chevelle... so he wanted my 55 ta do up his Camaro... sounds weird i know, but a year later when his Camaro was done, that 55 that was my #9 became my 11th 55... i bought it back. a year or so later i sold the Chevelle... ta get another 55
